Visionwest Health & Disability Consumer Rights Policy – Summary
About Healthcare Consumer Rights
Every client we support has rights under the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) Code of Rights, including the right to be treated with respect, have their privacy protected, receive clear information, make informed choices, have a support person present, and raise concerns or complaints without fear of being treated differently.
About this Policy
This policy helps ensure that the rights of all Visionwest clients are upheld in accordance with New Zealand’s Code of Health and Disability. For more information about the HDC Code of Rights, visit the Health and Disability Commissioner website.
Visionwest is committed to:
- Uphold the rights of clients as set out in the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers Rights.
- Provide services that are person-centred culturally safe, and responsive.
- Support clients to make informed choices and raise concerns without fear of disadvantage.
- Comply with all relevant legislation, standards, and contractual obligations related to the Code of health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights.
- Train staff to ensure compliance with the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights.
Information, Communication and Consent
We provide information about our services in a clear and accessible way so that people can understand their options and make informed decisions.
We will explain the nature of our services, potential benefits and risks, and any available alternatives. Consent is obtained before services are provided and can be withdrawn at any time.
Support and Advocacy
We encourage people to involve whānau, family members, support people, or advocates in decisions about their care if they wish. Information about independent advocacy services is available, and access to advocacy will always be supported.
Concerns and Complaints
If a person believes their rights have not been respected, we encourage them to let us know. All concerns and complaints are taken seriously, investigated appropriately, and used to help improve the quality of our services.
If you have a concern, would like to provide feedback, or feel there’s something we could do better, relating to our Visonwest Home Healthcare Service, please let us know.
