Visionwest Community Housing Canterbury provide high quality, supportive housing for whānau who struggling to find a suitable home.
Visionwest Community Housing addresses the issue of homeless in New Zealand by providing safe, warm, and quality, rental accommodation for low-income families who cannot access Government-supplied accommodation and cannot afford a private rental.
Services Provided
Visionwest Canterbury Community Housing was established in response to an increased need for housing following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
Following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, local churches and organisations rallied to answer the various needs for food, housing, and personal possessions. One of these churches was Rangiora Baptist. In response to the needs of those around them, the church established a number of community programmes but could not meet the obvious need for housing. Visionwest made a commitment to help them on that journey, and Visionwest’s Canterbury Community Housing Team was formed.
In 2014, Visionwest Canterbury Community Housing entered into a Short-Term Housing Contract with the Government to further increase the support given to homeless whānau. Within 12 months, over 100 Canterbury families had been given the support needed to transition them out of homelessness and into safe, affordable accommodation.
