ACC Nursing Services

ACC-funded community nursing services for people recovering from an injury who are unable to easily visit their doctor.

Visionwest Home Healthcare provides ACC-funded community nursing services for people recovering from injury who are unable to easily attend a GP clinic or medical centre. Nursing care can be provided in your home or another agreed community setting, such as a workplace or school.

Our registered nurses provide practical clinical care based on your injury-related needs, including wound care, post-surgical support, catheter or stoma care, continence care, medication oversight, IV therapies, compression therapy, and other approved nursing support.

Our experienced Nurses and Support Workers deliver safe, compassionate care designed to help you recover with confidence while staying connected to the place you know best.

About Visionwest ACC Nursing Services

As one of New Zealand’s largest not-for-profit charitable trusts, Visionwest has been supporting communities for more than 30 years through personalised healthcare and support services. Our compassionate team is committed to helping you recover with confidence while remaining comfortable, and independent at home.

Visionwest is contracted by ACC to provide community-based nursing care for people whose injury-related needs make attending a GP or medical centre difficult.

Your care is guided by an Individual Treatment Plan and reviewed regularly to make sure it remains appropriate as your recovery progresses. We also work closely with your GP and wider healthcare team to provide coordinated support throughout your recovery.

ACC Nursing Services Include

Wound Care – Assessment, treatment, and dressing of injury-related wounds to support healing and reduce the risk of infection.

Complex Wound Care – Specialist nursing care for more complex wounds, including burns, post-surgical wounds, skin grafts, wounds with infections, and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT).

Compression Therapy – Compression bandaging and garments to help improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support healing.

Catheter and Stoma Care – Support with caring for and managing your catheter or stoma to help keep you comfortable and healthy.

Continence Care – Advice and support to help manage bladder and bowel health with confidence.

Intravenous (IV) Therapies and Approved Injections – Safe administration of prescribed IV treatments and approved injections in your home or community.

Post-Surgical and Post-Injury Support – Nursing care to support your recovery after surgery or an injury, helping you heal safely.

Medication Oversight (where applicable) – Help to ensure your medications are taken safely and as prescribed, where this service is appropriate.

How ACC Nursing Services Work

All ACC nursing services are delivered at Visionwest by Registered Nurses.

What’s Included

  • An Individual Treatment Plan based on your assessed needs and ACC approval.
  • Registered nurse visits scheduled to meet your clinical needs.
  • Assessment, treatment, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Communication with your GP or healthcare provider, with your consent.
  • Education and support to help you recover confidently at home.
  • All clinical supplies, i.e. dressings and bandages, and equipment needed to deliver your approved care.

Your Individual Treatment Plan

At the beginning of your care, your nurse will complete an initial assessment and work alongside you to develop an Individual Treatment Plan (ITP). This plan outlines the nursing care needed to support your recovery and may be shared with ACC to help confirm service approval and funding.

Your ITP will be reviewed regularly and updated as your needs change. If additional nursing support is required, your nurse will discuss this with you and arrange further ACC approval where needed.

What You Can Expect

  • Visits from a registered nurse at a convenient time.
  • Safe, professional care in the comfort of your hopme.
  • Ongoing monitoring and support throughout your recovery.

How Much Does It Cost?

If your nursing care is related to an ACC-covered injury, and has been approved by ACC, there is no direct cost to you.

Funding is based on your assessed clinical needs and information provided by your nurse and referrer. Approved services are invoiced directly to ACC by Visionwest Home Healthcare.

If you are not eligible for ACC funding, or would like additional in-home support, privately funded services and co-payment options may also be available.

If you need extra in-home healthcare support

In addition to ACC Nursing Services, Visionwest also provides other home-based health and support services, including Home Help and Personal Care.

Access to these services depends on eligibility and funding arrangements, with private care options also available.
