Within our community, many of the elderly and those with disabilities would be unable to retain the comfort and independence of living in their own homes if not for in-home healthcare providers.
To ensure an even greater efficiency of support than the already excellent service provided, Visionwest, New Zealand’s largest not-for-profit healthcare provider has centralised their Glen Eden and Albany branches into one newly refurbished office within the Northwest Mall.
Patricia and Charles are typical of many who receive support from Visionwest Home Healthcare. After 40 years living in their family home, they reached that stage in life when they chose to move into a local retirement village. They love their self-contained unit which is surrounded by manicured gardens and sits close to waterside boardwalks. However, as various health issues began to affect their ability to complete tasks around the home, they feared they might have to move.
Patricia and Charles’ dilemma is one faced by many people who are older or who live with a disability. It’s the dilemma of deciding when it’s the right time to leave the home you love and move into a situation where more structured care is provided. Because that was a decision Patricia and Charles weren’t ready to make just yet, they contacted Visionwest.
“The moment we met with Visionwest we were impressed by their desire to do whatever it took to keep us in our home,” says Charles. “They have been coming for over two years now and we’ve got to know our carers so well that they are like a part of our family.”
In-home Healthcare Throughout New Zealand
Every week around 1,300 support workers from Visionwest Home Healthcare provide in-home support to over 7,000 people throughout Auckland and the central North Island. That adds up to almost one and a half million hours of personalised care every year.
Noel Hensman, Visionwest Home Healthcare National General Manager, says, “Our goal is to provide a service that takes away the concern many people have about performing personal and household tasks that become difficult as they grow older and may threaten their independence. The bringing together of our two Auckland offices will enable us to be more effective and efficient in coordinating this care.”
Visionwest provide a range of services to the local community and is New Zealand’s largest non-profit home healthcare provider, covering in-home healthcare needs throughout West Auckland, North Auckland and North Shore, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Rotorua/Taupo. www.homehealthcare.org.nz.
