A Story of Compassionate Care: June’s Journey with Visionwest Home Healthcare

One of our clients, June*, benefited from in-home healthcare for seven years. June lived with her daughter Maia*, who was her primary caregiver. However, in 2019, Maia faced her own significant health challenges, including the amputation of her leg due to complications from diabetes.

This created a double burden for Maia

— not only was she facing a life-changing surgery, but she was also deeply concerned about how to ensure her mother’s care while she recovered. It was clear that they needed a healthcare provider who could understand their unique situation and offer comprehensive, compassionate care. During Maia’s recovery in the hospital, June temporarily entered respite care.

Once Maia was well enough to return home, Visionwest’s home healthcare workers were there to help.

They allocated a dedicated team of six supportive Home Healthcare workers to provide approximately 50 hours of care per week to assist both Maia and June.

The Visionwest team worked with the family to carefully craft a plan, which ensured that both mother and daughter received the support they needed, especially as June entered the final phase of her life. The allotted time covered personal care and household management needs.

June passed away peacefully at home, fulfilling her wish to spend her last days in a familiar and comforting environment. The whānau spoke highly of the whole Visionwest team, including office coordinators who provided quality client focused support and are often unseen. The Visionwest healthcare team were honoured that June’s family reserved the front-row seat at June’s funeral service as a token of their appreciation for the care and support provided.
