Get your costumes ready for this Free Entry event sponsored by VisionWest. The Titirangi and Glen Eden Light Party is back for 2018, and it’s going to be better than ever! From 4.30 to 7 pm on Wednesday 31 October, the new Light Party venue at 97 Glendale Road will turn into an Enchanted Forest filled with activities, entertainment, food, prizes, and magic.
The event, hosted by the Glen Eden and Titirangi Baptist churches and sponsored by VisionWest Community Trust, will be a light-filled evening that brings the community together in a safe and fun environment. The churches have been collaboratively hosting the Light Party for 15 years and its popularity is growing.
This year, the alternative to American-style door-to-door trick or treating is set to attract around 2,000 people. The increasing number of attendees in recent years has kept Daniel Marshall, Youth Pastor at Glen Eden Baptist Church, busy throughout the evenings, but he always makes sure he takes a moment to see the community interacting. “It’s a wonderful washing machine of people,” he says. “I always look forward to families coming to a safe space and seeing the community around them.”
The new location at 97 Glendale Road is the location of Glen Eden Baptist and the VisionWest Community Trust campus. In celebration of their 30th anniversary, VisionWest will be covering this year’s entry fee, making it a free entry event for all. The organisation will also be celebrating the first phase of the VisionWest Kindergarten revamp, which on the evening will be turned into an under 5s area with face painting and fun activities.
Entertainment includes a petting zoo, a giant bouncy obstacle course, face painting, performances by local dance and Kapa Haka groups, and a magician. Attendees can also take part in the costume parade, which will give judges the opportunity to choose who will take home prizes for best dressed. Check out the Light Party Facebook and Event pages for more information on the evening, photos of past Light Parties, inspiration for Enchanted Forest-themed costumes, and a chance to win a delicious food hamper.
