Kylie says being a part of Visionwest’s Youth Services programme changed her life. As first-time parents, the practical support and advice she and her partner received made all the difference to coping and creating a positive home life for their toddler.
My Youth Mentor at Visionwest is Kendra and she is amazing. As a young couple with a new-born, we knew very little about finding a place to live let alone how to set up home. Kendra helped us find a home, ensured I got to appointments on time and constantly checked up to make sure I was doing okay.
Kylie says she couldn’t have got by without the practical help from her Youth Solutions tutor.
A social worker recommended Kylie contact Youth Solutions at Visionwest when she was pregnant with her little boy. Up to that point, the social worker was the only support Kylie had and she was struggling.
Practical Support – Parenting Courses and Budgeting
Coming along to Visionwest was a lifesaver. It changed everything. As first time parents who knew nothing about being a mum and dad, Visionwest have given us parenting courses and taught us how to budget. They provided us with food when we needed it and made sure we’re receiving the allowances we are entitled to.
Kylie’s dream is to one day buy a house. Before that she wants to become a hairdresser and has already made a start towards achieving that goal. She’s enrolled as a student at Henderson High in a course for young people who are parents.
My real aim is to provide my son with a good childhood and upbringing. I couldn’t do that without the practical support I’ve received from Visionwest. They mean the world to me because of the love and help they have shown. I’ve accepted every piece of advice they have given and everything they have suggested has been a real practical help.
I’ve loved being a part of ETC [Visionwest’s Education and Training Centre] too. It is just such a safe place. People are friendly and look out for one another. That’s not something I’ve had in other areas of my life but it’s just great.
