Visionwest provides quality in-home healthcare for older adults, people living with disabilities or those recovering from an injury.

This page contains some of the frequently asked questions relating to the support services we provide and funding relating to those services.

How do I get home help, and do I qualify?

1. Eligibility

You may qualify for publicly funded home support if you are eligible for New Zealand health services and:

  • Have a long-term illness (6 months or more)
  • Live with a disability, including accident-related disabilities
  • Are recovering from hospital treatment and need short-term support
  • Are aged 65+ with age-related health needs

2. Needs Assessment

To receive funded home help, you’ll need a needs assessment through Needs Assessment Services Coordination (NASC), on behalf of Te Whatu Ora. You can be referred by a health professional or self-refer.
The assessor will identify what support you need, what help whānau or community can provide, and what formal services are required.

Find your local NASC office: www.nznasca.co.nz/find-your-local-nasc/

3. Individualised Support Plan

Once your NASC referral is approved, we’ll work with you and your whānau to create an Individualised Support Plan and schedule that fits your needs. Our trained Support Workers provide care in your home, helping you stay independent while respecting your dignity and privacy.
