🐟 From today, and every fortnight on a Thursday, we’ll be offering fish heads and frames in Pātaka Kai, in collaboration with The Kai Ika Project and LegaSea NZ 🎣
We’re proud to partner with their Kaupapa. LegaSea NZ is a non profit dedicated to restoring the abundance, biodiversity and health of Aotearoa’s marine environment, and The Kai Ika Project was developed to better utilise fish heads, frames and off cuts which would otherwise go to waste.
We are doing this for a few important reasons:
✅ To help strengthen food security in our whānau and community, making kai available that is nutrient rich, culturally appropriate and often overlooked.
✅ To support sustainability by honouring the whole fish, reducing waste, showing respect for what the sea offers, and making sure every bit that can be used is used.
✅ To provide kai that is culturally right, fish heads and frames are part of our heritage and whakapapa, deeply meaningful and rich in mana, and we want the whānau who come through our Pātaka Kai to receive what is not just food, but taonga.
