Do you have a tenant you are having rental issues with?
Would you like to help your tenant remain in their rental property?
Sustaining Tenancies provides landlords and property managers with a FREE support service that will work through tenancy issues. It is specifically designed to help tenants of private rentals or social housing who are at risk of eviction.
Who is Sustaining Tenancies for?
Sustaining Tenancies is for any situation where a tenant is at risk of losing their tenancy, in either a private rental or social housing.
Either landlord or tenant is welcome to talk to Visionwest about how Sustaining Tenancies could work for them, however, liaison between landlord and tenant is essential for a positive outcome.
Reasons a tenancy may be at risk
- Falling behind on rent payments.
- Overcrowding.
- Complaints of disruptive, noisy and antisocial behaviour.
- Property damage.
- Untidy property or hoarding.
Benefits for Landlords
By seeking support for their tenants from Visionwest Sustaining Tenancies, landlords will:
- Help their tenants maintain their tenancy and avoid homelessness.
- Avoid or reduce neighbourhood conflict.
- Avoid the need for eviction.
- Gain good long-term tenants.
- Avoid periods without tenants and the cost of replacing tenants.
How Visionwest’s Sustaining Tenancies works…
Sustaining Tenancies involves a Visionwest Support Navigator meeting with your tenant to determine what is required to help the tenancy work and to develop a Tenancy Plan.
A Visionwest Support Navigator will then meet regularly with the tenant to keep them on track to achieving their Tenancy Plan. Once they are no longer at risk of losing their tenancy, they will work with the tenant on a revised plan that will enable them to graduate from Sustaining Tenancies with their tenancy intact.
During this process, the Support Navigator will meet with landlords or property managers when required to discuss the tenant’s progress and how they can support them in achieving their Tenancy Plan.
That could include:
- Tenant/landlord advocacy.
- Help with financial mentoring or budgeting.
- Support to navigate necessary social and health services.
- Counselling support.
- Life skills coaching and mentoring to help your tenant maintain a long-term tenancy.
- Providing life-supports relevant to the tenant’s ongoing needs.
How can you help your tenant remain in their property?
If you have a tenant who you think would benefit from Sustaining Tenancies, talk to them about how you can work together with a Visionwest Support Navigator.
Property managers, landlords and social service agencies can refer people to the service with the consent of the person involved.
