Kaupapa Māori designed housing for 18 to 22 year-old wāhine experiencing homelessness or facing housing insecurity.
Whare Hiwa gives young wāhine a safe place to live, alongside other wāhine, and in partnership with Visionwest’s Ōhinga Tū youth work support service.
Whare Hiwa
House of Hopes and Dreams
Whare Hiwa is more than just accommodation. It provides young wāhine with a home and the support structures that ensure personal growth and the learning of skills that can lead to employment or further education.
The live-in support provided ensures that a listening ear is always present to provide wisdom, encouragement, and support.
The young wāhine who live at Whare Hiwa will receive:
- Safe and comfortable supervised accommodation.
- An opportunity to learn the skills needed for independent living and flatting.
- Training in the skills that will enable them to gain the confidence and skills to prepare for employment or further education.
