From 1st - 15th September, Visionwest is partnering with Safewill, a trusted online Wills provider, to offer a free, lawyer-reviewed, online Will to our community. Its also an opportunity to consider leaving a gift in your Will to Visionwest, but this is completely your choice and won’t affect your access to a free Will. Heres Gregs story...
We wanted to leave something in our Will to a cause we believed in; one that would make a real difference long after we’re gone. We’ve always admired Visionwest for the work they do in our local community and beyond, and the way they go about it – we’ve been regular monthly supporters for a few years.
Visionwest impress us with the way they serve people with a combination of heartfelt compassion and practical wraparound support. From housing those in crisis to providing food, counselling, and wraparound care for families, Visionwest has shown a commitment to the health and strength of individuals and of our community as a whole for almost 40 years.
By leaving this gift, we feel we can play a small part in ensuring that Visionwest’s life-changing work will continue for future generations.
One story of a person helped by Visionwest which we recall is that of the middle-aged woman from out of Auckland who was diagnosed with cancer. Within a short period of time, the cost of treatment and medication had depleted her finances, she even had to sell her home. To receive further treatment, she moved to Auckland where, with no financial backing, she slept in her car. Eventually, some rather inadequate emergency housing was found for her. It was here that she met two members of Visionwest’s staff team. They found her housing, supported her with food, helped her sort her finances and provided transport to and from her many oncology appointments. Four years later, she was still having ongoing oncological treatment but was comfortable and appreciative of what Visionwest were doing for her. We’re pretty certain that, without Visionwest, she would not be alive today.
